There’s something very special about seeing the first snowdrops appear and knowing that spring is around the corner. Snowdrops usually flower from January through to the end of February depending on the weather. There are some fantastic places to go for a snowdrop walk in Oxfordshire. Basildon Park
Basildon Park National Trust grounds are open for locals, but do remember to book your slot in advance. A map of the estate will be available to take a picture of when you arrive, and the walks around the estate are signposted. Find out more
Swyncombe Down
The display of snowdrops can be found at St Botolph’s Church and there’s and easy loop walk with one steep climb. Map of walk here.
Badbury Hill
The site of a former iron age fort, visitors to National Trust’s Badbury Hill should be able to find snowdrops on a walk, however, this site is best known for it’s bluebell woodland walks a few months later.
Waterperry Gardens
With more than 60 different snowdrop varieties carpeting the ornamental gardens over the season, enjoy a walk around the gardens to see these little heralds of spring in a magical setting .
Kingston Bagpuize House & Gardens
The grounds of Kingston Bagpuize near Abingdon have snowdrop walks with several areas of woodland which have been cleared to encourage their growth. The gardens will open from 4, 7, 11, 14, 18, 21, 25, 28th February 2024 for snowdrops this year. There’s also a snowdrop and plant fair on 25th February 2024.
Braziers Park, Wallingford
During the weekend of 17th to 18th February 2024 vistiors to Braziers Park near Wallingford will be able to walk around the estate to savour the delights of Spring. There will be an interactive family trail around the estate, storytelling, snowdrop making, games, bits to cook on the fire …. and more! The price is £12 per child – under 2’s and grown-ups go free!

With over 80 varieties of magnificent snowdrops planted in swathes throughout Evenley Woods beautiful 60-acre woodland haven, it’s sure to be the perfect place to come and escape this winter (if you’re local).

Stowe
Stowe usually have a snowdrop walk, with special paths re-opened for the winter season highlight; see one of the best hidden treasures of the garden at Stowe where the snowdrops blanket the banks as you walk from the Lamport Garden to the Gothic Temple. Winter is a great season for displaying the garden undressed where the defined views open and become more apparent.
Cliveden
Visit Cliveden to see wonderful snowdrops in the woodland and also on the steep west-facing escarpment that runs down to the edge of the River Thames. Find out more.
